Because background checks can be limiting, we can’t guarantee that they’ll identify all past criminal convictions. As a result, there can’t be a guarantee that the worker has no criminal history. Some of the reasons why:
Scope of search
GigHound runs background checks in Canada and uses the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s (RCMP) Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database. This search covers offenses for which you have been convicted and excludes offenses that are actively being investigated or prosecuted.
User information accuracy
Checks are only fully processed if all required data has been given. This includes your full name, birthday, historical residency information, and two pieces of identification, one of which is a photo. If the RCMP is unable to verify your identity, the background check will be marked as “uncertain”, and an in-person background check will be required.
Infrequency
Criminal record checks include information that is available to police services at the time the check is completed by GigHound. There's no guarantee that the information will be accurate and current in a few months, weeks, or even days after the check is conducted.
Criminal deceit
Even the most sophisticated database or search technology may be circumvented by people.
