Employers are required by law to deduct necessary taxes and deductions from your pay.
GigHound deducts all required taxes and deductions from your pay and submits these deductions to the government for filing and tax purposes. If you worked during the year, GigHound will provide you with your annual T4.
Government Required Deductions
Income tax
The Canadian government collects taxes from workers to pay for public services. Income tax includes both federal and provincial taxes, which differ by province. To learn more about federal and provincial income taxes, visit the Government of Canada website.
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is a mandatory Canadian government program that requires all employers to deduct CPP contributions from workers' pay. The CPP provides basic benefits when a contributor to the plan retires or becomes disabled. To learn more about the Canada Pension Plan, visit the Government of Canada website.
Quebec Pension Plan (QPP)
Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) contributions will be deducted instead of CPP contributions if working in the province of Quebec. To learn more about the Quebec Pension Plan, visit the Government of Canada website.
Employment Insurance (EI)
Employment insurance is a federally mandated program in Canada. EI contributions are deducted from each worker's pay to assist with temporary income support during unemployment. If a worker loses their job and has paid into the program, they may be eligible for EI benefits. To learn more about Employment Insurance, visit the Government of Canada website.
